About:

Local artist Rob Scott-Mitchell is an award winning photographer/printmaker/musician/dog-lover, living in Australia.

Two years ago he began documenting his own dogs (and all the dogs on the beach) on his daily beach walks at Belongil beach which became his ongoing series ‘Beach Dogs of Byron Bay’.

Stylistically the work has evolved into shooting largely from the dogs’ P.O.V. Scott-Mitchell loves entering their play spaces, and responding to their energy and occasional aggression. Rob states “I find this very special in the landscape of the beach, where the openness of the sky and ever present horizon line, contrasts beautifully with tight shots that focus intimately on the dogs’ interactions.”

Rob’s photographic goal is to engage fully in the present, to capture the immediacy of the action and interactions of the animals around him. His work invites you to share in the vitality and joy inherent in each canine interaction captured during his effervescent engagement with them. His almost magical interaction with each animal was profound and is evidenced in this exhibition.

Lone Goat Gallery is a creative initiative of Byron Shire Council.
