Brunswick Picture House
In a beautiful, sleepy beach town called Brunswick Heads sits a theatre that sat empty for decades…. And it’s here in this unlikely little venue where magic really happens.
After laying dormant for over 30 years, the curtains lifted on this old theatre in March 2016 and it began a new lease on life, lovingly restored by the creative team behind the award-winning, internationally-acclaimed circus/cabaret sensation “La Soirée.”
Having survived the wreckers’ ball and the ravages of time, this iconic building’s revival has set the stage for a vibrant and charismatic mix of film, circus, cabaret, comedy, live music and family-friendly entertainment. In just seven years, the Brunswick Picture House has established itself as a local landmark for the community: a place for people to meet, be inspired, gossip, laugh and be entertained.
A stone’s throw away from Byron Bay, alongside the soft ripples of the Brunswick River, the Brunswick Picture House is an unforgettable glance back at retro Australiana, with its lush, tropical garden as the ideal spot to bask and soak in the sun.
The Picture House is home to its signature circus/cabaret/variety show the Cheeky Cabaret, which has redefined a night out at the theatre, regularly selling out each season and attracting international artists who would ordinarily play much bigger stages. The reputation of this outrageous genre-bending show has spread like wildfire with its often weird and always fabulous line-up.
From “wow factor” social events and razzle dazzle cabarets to intimate music gigs and everything in between, it’s a space that makes people smile, cry, burst out in laughter or get up and dance.
Dedicated to putting the fun back into going to a show or the cinema, the Brunswick Picture House has re-emerged — reimagined and better than ever.
