Set to take place this August, the Byron Bay Surf Festival holds an esteemed position in the world of surfing, showcasing the rich heritage of Byron Bay’s surf culture by celebrating our culture, environmental sustainability and our community spirit. Surrounded by pristine beaches and renowned surf breaks, Byron Bay is a place where the deep connection between nature and surfing is palpable.

The festival pays hommage to this unique surf culture, which has influenced and inspired countless individuals for generations. This year, the Festival will feature a diverse range of events designed to celebrate the theme of “rewildering.” Highlights include:

  • Surf Competitions: Showcasing local and international talent across various divisions. As usual we will run our Wategos Wizards events on Saturday followed by our Freestyle & Stoke sessions on Sunday.
  • Workshops and Talks: Featuring experts on ocean conservation, sustainable living, and surf culture.
  • Art Installations and Film Screenings: Celebrating the intersection of art and surfing at McTavish.
  • Live Music and Parties: Including the iconic Tracks Party, brought to you by Tracks Magazine, with headliner and other bands to be announced soon. Tickets for the Beach Hotel celebration will be available very soon!

The festival will host special guests from Australia and around the world, including renowned surfers, environmental experts, and artists. These guests will participate in various events, sharing their expertise and inspiring the community.

The Festival organisers are also excited to welcome SurfAid for the second ever Women’s Cup, taking place on Friday, August 16th. This competition highlights the incredible talent of female surfers and supports SurfAid’s mission to improve the health, well-being, and self-reliance of people living in isolated regions. Many of which we enjoy as surfers throughout Indonesia & the Solomon Island to name a few.

Tracks Magazine will bring their famous Tracks Party  this year. Known for its vibrant atmosphere and incredible lineups, this party will feature a headliner and other bands, with details to be announced soon!

Not since 2018 has the McTavish Trim been a feature at the Byron Bay Surf Festival. Featuring 9 of the best female and 9 of the best male longboarders invited from all over the world. This eclectic bunch will follow the art of trim no matter the conditions. The Trim event will take place on Sunday 18th August as part of our Freestyle & Stoke event.

The Byron Bay Surf Festival has always been blessed with an incredibly talented artistic side of surfing led by its founder, James McMillan. James has again delivered some awesome art for the Festival this year and you will see it scattered throughout the festival, on our posters, in our social media AND at the BBSF art show displayed at McTavish in the Industrial estate (91 Centennial Cct, Byron Bay)

The Surf Festival is also very proud of its history with conservation and climate action leading the way for events far and wide when it comes to our sustainability policies. This year we are pleased to welcome CRUZR e-bikes as a Sustainability Partner.
