BBFF2024 – themed Anything is Possible, is coming to venues across the region – Palace Byron Bay, Brunswick Picturehouse, Lennox Head Cultural Centre, Palace Ballina Fair bringing audiences fresh films, engaging stories, important issues and opportunities to connect with talent who work behind and in front of the camera.
Opening night features the documentary, Aquarius which takes us back to a pivotal moment in this region’s history – an era where anything was possible. In 1973, the sleepy town of Nimbin in Northern Rivers, New South Wales was home to just 300 people. That all changed when 10,000 students, mystics, hippies, and visionary leaders converged for the 10-day Aquarius Festival. Armed with ideals of peace, love, and an abundance of psychedelic experiences, these wild and free festival-goers challenged law enforcement and societies norms – dreaming of a better world and many stayed on choosing the Rainbow Region as the place to start it…
Tickets to this very special opening night film and opening night party are on sale now.
Short films play a big part in the local film festival. The competition, which has run every year since 2007, is designed to encourage fledgling filmmakers and reward those artists whose work embodies the boldness, intelligence, sensitivity and flair that bode well for their future in the demanding, competitive – and endlessly rewarding – world of cinema. It has proved a launchpad into the industry for scores of young Australian creatives. View here for short film details
