Open Studios – Ballina, Byron & Beyond (OS-BBB) is an exciting & inspiring studio arts adventure trail designed to allow the public to discover and experience the diversity of working studios of local artists.
Across two weekends, artists of all genres will open their studios to the public, allowing you to see into the private working life of the professional artist. You will meet the artists and learn what is involved in their creative and production process. Where feasible, artists will offer the public the opportunity to try their hand at a specific process – please note this may not be possible due to Covid-restrictions.
OS-BBB was initiated in 2018 by Paul Button who strongly believes that creativity is essential for a healthy community. Paul wanted to give the public the opportunity to see that anyone can ‘do’ art – you just have to find your preferred medium, and begin! He also wanted to give people the opportunity to have the question ‘how do you do that’ (which is always asked in gallery exhibitions) answered – by witnessing the process of creation at its source, in the artist’s studio. Assisted by an energetic committee of Maria & John Heaton, Deb McFarlane and Ange Parr, OS-BBB was born and its first two years were a great success. Rosie Kaplan has since joined our organising team and in 2020 we are proud to introduce you to 34 studios across the Ballina, Byron & Beyond region – some new to the trail, others firm favourites from previous years.
Welcome once again to Open Studios – Ballina, Byron and Beyond..
