GONDWANA – MAHA BAZAAR STORY

Over 20 years ago Radha started an alternative / new age shop in Byron Street.  Our aim was to give locals and guests to Byron good quality hand made producys at great prices.

The 18 years ago the owner of Gondwana the didgeridoo / Aboriginal shop next door was struggling doe to low sales and difficulty getting enough products made by Aboriginal people.  So Radha purchased Gondwana and successfully merged it with Maha Bazaar.

We artfully redesigned the shop and dropped the prices of the didgeridoos and Aboriginal arts. Up until now we have given regular business buying stock from several Aboriginal families, however we are always looking for local and other Aboriginal people to do painting on our handicrafts and canvass.  Please contact Radha if you wish to paint for us.

Our ideal goal is to run an ethical and conscious business, helping families and the environment.

Through Radha’s product designs we help support about 20 family run businesses around the world.

We believe and practice tolerance and believe this “golden age” we are now in is the time for all people to drop old ideals of separation through race and religion – as it only leads to fundamentalism and violence.  My wife Marissa and I see brown black white yellow- all – as brothers and sisters.  The sign outside our shop says “Unity in Diversity” and we believe the premise of difference was created by the old conquerers to divide and rule.

With our profit we have planted 10,000 trees and helped to manifest an ashram in NSW.  We are currently sending donations to buy land so it is safe from mining companies, where Aboriginal people can live in their traditional ways.  We also currently send donations to Ecuador to save rainforest from being logged and also give local indigenous people a permanent place to live.   as we can afford we send onations to help support an orphanage and school in Nepal with 30 girls and 50 boys, saving to buy them more land.

Love and peace to all beings!
