DESCRIPTION:A bookish circus adventure for the whole family. \nThe Librarian is a children’s based circus adventure by Canadian based company Le Gros Orteil\, suitable for ages 5 – 12. Blending clowning\, physical theatre and the circus arts\, this show invites young audiences to discover the passion of reading and the power of the imagination by whisking them away on a series of great adventures. \nPaul-Émile Dumoulin has been working at his town’s library for 25 years. He’s serious and nervous\, also proud and sometimes clumsy. \nThe only problem? As soon as Paul-Émile gets his nose in a book\, reality disappears\, giving way to the worlds he discovers between the pages. This very sensible librarian soon metamorphoses into the strange and silly characters in his books\, who perform acrobatics\, balancing\, juggling\, break dancing and beatboxing.  Just how far will reading take him? \nThis is a highly entertaining\, highly skilled and seriously funny show. \nLe Gros Orteil is an organization whose mission is to create high quality shows for young audiences\, combining the disciplines of clown\, theater\, and circus. They advocate improvisation as a starting point when bringing a show to life\, where truthful emotions and interaction with the audience are a priority. In 1973\, the sleepy town of Nimbin in Northern Rivers\, New South Wales was home to just 300 people. That all changed when 10\,000 students\, mystics\, hippies\, and visionary leaders converged for the 10-day Aquarius Festival. Armed with ideals of peace\, love\, and an abundance of psychedelic experiences\, these wild and free festival-goers challenged law enforcement and societies norms – dreaming of a better world and many stayed on choosing the Rainbow Region as the place to start it… \nTickets to this very special opening night film and opening night party are on sale now. \nShort films play a big part in the local film festival. A funky daytime DJ set by Sammy KC will keep the energy up\, and a silent auction will be held with items such as a custom Otis Carey artwork\, a private dining experience with Raes Executive Chef Jason Saxby\, a two-night stay at Raes\, and a one-off furniture piece from MCM House. \nChef Jason Saxby and his team will be at the Traeger grills on the lawn serving dishes that include shellfish BBQ: split bay lobster\, scallop in the shell\, Ballina king prawn\, whole local pink snapper BBQ with applewood\, and meat BBQ featuring porchetta roll with hickory. Dishes start at $8. DESCRIPTION:As part of the Byron Bay Film Festival why not enjoy an evening in Brunswick Heads by visiting the Brunswick Picture House to see the astonishing film about a surfing titan who became Westerly Windina. \nIn 2008\, years after nearly drowning in a traumatic and life-changing surfing accident\, surfing champion Peter Drouyn suddenly resurfaced by coming out as a trans woman on national television. Her new name\, she said\, was Westerly Windina. “It was a supernova\,” Westerly said of her gender awakening. “It just kicked in one night\, and suddenly Peter went; Westerly was there.” \nThe surf community\, and Australia at large\, were astonished. Though she’d once been a top-tier athlete with sponsorships and a burgeoning acting career\, Westerly was now living in public housing on Australia’s Gold Coast — alone\, poor\, and often taunted by her neighbours. \nThe Life and Death of Westerly Windina explores Westerly’s upbringing\, her years as a surfing titan\, and follows her into a new chapter as she searches for acceptance from friends\, family\, a still-hyper masculine sport\, and most importantly — from herself. \n  \nFilmmakers will be in attendance at this screening.
