DESCRIPTION:The much beloved choir Dustyesky return to the stage with their very first film concert! \nThe choir will accompany the screening of the Aleksandr Dovzhenko’s 1930 masterpiece Earth (Zemlya) for an extraordinary meeting of voices and film. \nEarth is celebrated by film critics as one of cinema’s supreme visual masterpieces. \nCommissioned to make propaganda for Stalin’s farm collectivization\, the acclaimed Ukranian filmmaker Alexander Dovzhenko instead delivered an impassioned hymn to nature\, following the farmer Vassily as he opposed the coming of collective farming. \nThe secret of Dustyesky is lost in the misty undergrowth of famous Mullumgrad hinterland. Like the recipe for gherkin liqueur\, the magic of their music lies in the heart of all of us\, but never one man alone. Your heart will soar. You will smile and cry. For sure. As rough as sawmiller’s beard as gentle as his touch\, Dustyesky is elusive yet eternal. Like the wind of the Siberian steppes\, we shall blow within you forever… \n​From the Dustyeksy’s; \n“We were excited to be invited to provide the soundtrack to Earth. In respect to our approach to providing the soundtrack\, we will be singing a repertoire in most part from the Soviet period the film was set\, with roughly equal balance of Russian and Ukrainian traditional songs. Our intention and why we chose these songs has to do with our belief that often it is from periods of the greatest challenges that the most significant and powerful of art is created. Taking direction from Dostoevsky\, we celebrate the human experience and the art that was influenced during these times of great human hardship and despair. The music we have chosen comes from a place of respect. We believe that great music stands the test of time\, that it can be uplifting and joyous\, even though it might have come from a place of pain and despair. DESCRIPTION:Local Byron Bay surfer\, Mark ‘Mono’ Stewart felt it was time to bring a world championship event to Australia to showcase the skills of the world’s best surfers with a disability and in March 2024 this will be a reality. \nByron Bay will host the first international adaptive surfing event\, the 2024 Australian Pro\, from March 17 to March 22.  \nEach day the best surf between Main Beach and the Pass will be chosen for the days contest so get ready to walk Lawson Street to access the daily surf breaks. The comp features over 100 competitors from nine separate divisions to cater for most physical disabilities\, including amputation\, neurological impairment\, paralysation and visual impairment. \nThe event is an historic moment for the sport and will inspire and raise awareness about adaptive surfing among a wider community\, showcasing the talents of athletes competing at the top level.

SUMMARY:Lismore Lantern Parade
DESCRIPTION:Lismore Lantern Parade is a nationally and internationally recognised\, award-winning annual festival that celebrates the Winter Solstice. The festival is based around a breath-taking parade of lanterns\, light and performance through the main streets of Lismore\, travelling to the banks of the Wilson’s River where a theatrical performance\, fireworks and a spectacular bonfire continue the celebration. It is well worth the 45 minute drive west from Byron along the Bruxner Highway to participate in this festival! \nMarket Delight | 12pm – 9.00pmThe day’s activities begin at 12 noon when the Market delight opens with a fabulous array of delicious regional food\, arts & crafts and some pop-up shops from local CBD businesses. \n​Freedom of Entry Parade | 1.30pm – 2.30pm\nSoldiers from the Lismore based 41st Battalion\, Royal New South Wales Regiment\, will conduct a Freedom of Entry Parade into the Lismore CBD on 22 June 2024 as a part of the lantern festival. The parade marches through the town to the memorial cenotaph and along the route\, the soldiers will be halted as the Local Police Commander and Mayor formally challenge their right of entry into the city. They then continue along the route to Memorial Gardens where the parade will conclude. This is a ceremonial event of deep historical significance. \nKids Fest | 12pm – 4.30pmEnjoy fun and games with Northern Rivers community groups & organisations\, there will be activities\, street performers\, jumping castle and lots more fun. The Summerland Bank will be bringing along their giant street games! They will also be facilitating the Lantern Decorating stall so you can join in the parade!​\n \nThe Heartbeats Festival Stage | 12pm – 9.00pmHeartBeats Festival Stage returns to Carrington Street\, near Dragonfly Cafe. The delightful Little Jarjums from Friends Children’s Centre and friends will join Uncle Roy Gordon to do a special Acknowledgement of Country. Music and performance is drawn from the wealth of talent here on the Northern Rivers. The full HeartBeats Festival Stage program will be released closer to the festival. \n​The Lantern Parade | 5.30pm – 6.30pm\nThe fabulous Lanterneers assemble and depart from Magellan Street through the Heart of the City to completion at Riverside Park. \n\n\n​The Fiery Finale | 6.30pm -7.30pm\nSet on the slopes of the Riverside Park\, there will be gentle pyrotechnics and a big bonfire. For this you will need to bring along blankets and cushions to sit on the grass. Camp chairs are kept to the top of the slope. \nThe After Parties | 8.30pm – late\nSeveral local hotels and venues around the city will be putting on a variety of after parties. \n\n  \n\n​
