SUMMARY:Understory - a theatrical adventure | Lismore Rainforest Botanic Gardens
DESCRIPTION:Understory is a magical\, interactive theatre adventure created and presented for children by Roundabout Theatre\, springing to life in the Lismore Rainforest Botanic Gardens this April school holidays. \nHave you heard fungi talk? Have you felt the forest hum? \nPart theatre\, part quest and part wacky science field trip\, Understory is made to inspire children aged 7-11 years with a deep curiosity\, wonder and connection to the natural world. The entire Hoop Pine Forest at Lismore Rainforest Botanic Gardens will become an enchanting theatrical world brought to life by an original story that is both fantastical and based in science and ecology principles. \nThe Understory quest begins from the moment a ticket is purchased. An invitation is sent to your child (via email to parents/carers)\, inviting them to be ‘Wonderers’ and outlining the adventure ahead. Roundabout Theatre has also developed a highly interactive website at www.understory.roundabout.net.au to accompany the show. Parents and carers are encouraged to direct their children to the email and the website before they arrive at the show\, so they are informed on how to be part of the Understory adventure. \nTwo shows daily | 10am-1130am and 230pm-4pm \nFor more information and to book  \n

Wins all round! \nFestival of the Stone began as a celebration of Stone & Wood’s annual release of Stone Beer and the first tapping of the keg. The 2024 Stone Beer brew is a wood-fired porter ideal for chilly winter nights. A nod to medieval brewing\, it’s a tradition held dear since Stone & Wood’s humble beginnings\, seventeen years ago.  Now\, every May since Stone & Wood began\, alongside others in the brewing industry\, Stone & Wood brews its woodfired porter Stone Beer in preparation for winter. This is called Stone Brew Day. \nGet ready to spend Saturday 1 June with… Dan Sultan\, Beddy Rays\, The Beefs\, Verge Collection Aka Lei and Mid Drift. \nBringing the ankle biters along? Plus there’s garden games galore to keep them engaged and burning up that energy! \n“We believe it’s a really important time to support Australian music\, events and our community. With Splendour and other festivals having a year off\, we’re injecting a little more love into the music side of things this year. Live music in Australia ain’t going anywhere. And with Byron having one of the highest homeless populations in the nation\, now is as important as ever to support those sleeping rough. We’re happy to support Fletcher St Cottage’s incredible work in this area for the 10th year in a row.” – James Aris\, Stone & Wood Marketing Manager. \nThere’s nowhere better than Byron in winter! SUMMARY:The Wake | Brunswick Picture House
DESCRIPTION:An original musical about the Bruns Fishing Fleet. Directed by Ollie Heathwood\nA musical that answers the question “What happened to the fishing fleet in Brunswick Heads?” This exuberant and compelling play celebrates the days when the Co-op was a much-loved meeting place at the heart of the town. Wonderful true stories told by fishermen and Co-op workers are brought to life through songs\, stories\, and images on the big screen. \nResidents\, long term holidaymakers\, and tourists alike are filled with a sense of loss when they go to the marina in Brunswick Heads and see the empty shell of the buildings that once housed the vibrant Brunswick-Byron Fishermen’s Co-Op\, and the wonderful seafood and the fish and chip shop. People ask\, “Where has the fish and chip shop gone\, and why?” and “Why aren’t there any trawlers in Brunswick Heads any more?” \nMany of us have fond memories of taking friends\, family\, and visitors to eat fish and chips at the boat harbour. Many people still go there expecting to be able to throw vinegar-soaked chips to seagulls while they enjoy the beauty of the river and the boats. But sadly\, the Co-op is closed\, and the trawlers are gone. \nThe Wake celebrates and preserves the history of that place\, and the local fishing community whose lives centred around it. \nThis original musical will tell stories based on research and interviews with fishermen\, their families\, and workers at the Co-op. Performances will involve large screen projections\, professional musicians\, singers and actors on stage at the iconic Brunswick Picture House. The play will celebrate the role that the fishing fleet played in our community and tell the story of why there is no longer a fleet in Brunswick Heads. \nPerformances | Saturday 2pm and 7pm | Sunday 4pm and 7pm \nBUY TICKETS
