SUMMARY:Australian Surf Movie Festival Tour 2020 presented by Tim Bonython
DESCRIPTION:The Australian Surf Movie Festival Tour 2020 featuring SwellChasers from Swell and Back\, a voyage into the best and greatest biggest swells of the past 3 years\n5 Short Films – 5 Locations – The best surfers on the planet \nFor the first time in 3 years\, the amaysim Australian Surf Movie Festival will return to venues across Australia\, featuring 6 jaw-dropping films that capture the world’s best big wave surfers battling the biggest waves on the planet. Screenings will take place in November and December. \nThe films feature an array of the world’s best big wave riders\, including: Kai Lenny\, Rodrigo Koxa\, Matahi Drollet\, Ross Clarke-Jones\, Dan Corbett\, Bradley Norris\, Henry Davies\, Shane Ackerman\, Jake Osman and many more. \nRenowned surf cinematographer Tim Bonython has spent the last 4 years chasing massive swell events for this year’s festival. It is an adventure that has taken him around the globe. \nThe footage he has collected records some of the most ground-breaking scenes in recent big wave surfing memory. These include pioneering big wave surfer Kai Lenny riding the futuristic foil surfboard in gigantic surf at Jaws\, and fellow big wave rider Rodrigo Koxa breaking the world record for the biggest wave ever ridden. \n“To see these big wave gladiators charging down monster waves is just the most exciting thing\,” said Tim\, who is not only the films’ main cinematographer\, but also the founder of the event. \nThe first film features big wave surfers at Nazaré in Portugal\, the second\, at Mullaghmore in Ireland; the third\, at Teahupo’o in Tahiti; the fourth\, at The Right in Western Australia; the fifth\, at Cloudbreak in Fiji. Together these five films make up the 14th Edition of the festival. \nRight now\, Tim’s passion for putting “big waves on the big screen” at the Festival could not be more needed. It offers viewers the chance to forget about the current world crisis and completely immerse themselves in the raw power of the ocean\, along with the stories of the surfers brave enough to push the limits of what is possible. COVID-19’s taken the stoke out of a lot this year—the festival promises to bring it back\, if only for a night. \nAll films featured are directed by Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Award-winning cinematographer and multi-award winning surf film producer Tim Bonython\, who has over four decades of experience filming and documenting surfing. \n \n\n\nWhen:\nNovember 19\, 2020 @ 7:00 pm – 9:30 pm\n\n\nWhere:\nByron Theatre\n69 Jonson Street\nByron Bay NSW 2481\nAustralia\n\n\nCost:\nAdult $29.70 | Child under 18 $22 | Group of 4 or more $25\n\n\nContact:\n\n\n Event website \n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Matt Corby @ Brunswick Picture House
DESCRIPTION:Award-winning Matt Corby makes his Picture House debut with an exclusive show!\nIt’s a cliché. The hard second album. The weight of following-up\, evolving\, justifying. All that angst and self-doubt and second-guessing that chokes the creative spirit. Or not… “I actually think this is the start of me really having fun with music.” \nIf anyone deserves to break the shackles and enjoy the moment\, it’s multi-platinum-selling musician Matt Corby. For a decade\, Corby has been pushing his own boundaries\, embracing a journey of self-discovery that’s seen him wrestle a few pre-conceptions and stare down his share of demons. Now\, with two ARIA Song of the Year awards on the shelf\, and a #1 debut album\, Telluric\, behind him\, Corby can genuinely lay claim to some hard-earned perspective. \nCorby’s new album\, Rainbow Valley\, was written and recorded in a period that also saw the birth of his first child. His second full-length release is brimming with a new-found vitality and joy\, a fresh energy that finds perfect expression in a kaleidoscopic reimagining of the sound he has honed for the last ten years. From the surreal\, dreamlike splendour of first single No Ordinary Life — which was met with worldwide acclaim and high-rotation on triple j – to the soulful majesty of the title track\, Rainbow Valley reveals an artist who seems both more aware of what he wants and why he wants it. “When I found out I was going to be a father\, it helped me get my head together\,” Corby says. “And as part of that\, I was able to set aside a lot of weird hang ups I used to have\, personally and selfishly\, about making music. So\, when it came to writing\, I found I could be less stubborn\, more open minded to going in new musical directions.” \nBuoyed by a boatload of inspiration from those creative sessions\, earlier this year Corby retired to the idyllic surroundings of Byron Bay’s Music Farm studios to begin work on the album proper. As he had with Telluric\, Corby once again enlisted the help of producer Dann Hume (Amy Shark\, Client Liason) and engineer Matthew Neighbour (Avalanches\, Missy Higgins). Everything else\, he took care of himself. “I play and sing every part on the album\, again\,” he says. “Working like that meant we could really develop ideas quickly — when I want it to feel a certain way\, I know five things I can do on six instruments that could potentially create that\, and so we just go through them all.” \nRecorded in the idyllic surroundings of Byron Bay’s Music Farm studios\, the results speak for themselves. Lush\, multi-textured and sparked by hints of both old soul and futuristic psychedelia\, Rainbow Valley is\, in Corby’s words “joyous music”\, but it also has the depth and perspective of an artist who understands you can’t just take the good times for granted\, you have to earn them. “We definitely tried to be wary of that\,” says Corby. “The more joyous you go with anything\, the more you need to have all your bases covered\, and then the content of what you’re actually talking about becomes very crucial.” \nDon’t miss the superb Matt Corby in his only Brunswick Picture House show! \nDate: FRI 20 NOV @ 7PM\n— Doors 6.30pm.\nDuration: Approximately 2 hours \nINSIDE SEATING $60 (plus booking fee)\nWatch the show live\, seated in our venue. LIMITED CAPACITY of 100 Inside Seats. \nGARDEN SEATING $40 (plus booking fee)\nWatch the show from our garden\, as the live show is streamed onto the outdoor screen. SUMMARY:BBFF - Byron Bay International Film Festival - Special 2020 Edition
DESCRIPTION:BBFF 2020\nThe team behind the 14t h Byron Bay International Film Festival have decided to create a unique hybrid program of events across the Festival’s planned dates. With social distancing regulations limiting social activities and venue capacities\, they have reinvented the festival\, keeping their eye firmly on the goal of continuing to support and highlight film talent. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\nScreenings \nThe Festival will be rolling out the red carpet and presenting a select season of films at\nits two Byron venues\, Palace Cinemas and Byron Theatre. The Festival team are hoping to increase the number of sessions being shown in the festival program\, depending on demand\, but the intention is to create ‘A Taste of BBFF’\, whetting film lovers’ appetites for a 2021 return and a full program of events. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA highlight of the festival will be the NSW Premiere of Firestarter – The Story of Bangarra – A feature documentary co-written and co-directed by Nel Minchin (Making Muriel\, Matilda & Me) and Northern Rivers local Wayne Blair (Cleverman\, The Sapphires). Marking Bangarra Dance Theatre’s 30th anniversary\, Firestarter tells the story of how three young Aboriginal brothers —Stephen\, David and Russell Page – took a dance company in its infancy and turned it into a First Nations cultural powerhouse. Through the eyes of the brothers\, Firestarter explores the loss and reclaiming of culture\, the burden of intergenerational trauma\, and – crucially – the power of the arts as a messenger for social change and healing. \nFor the full program of films including dramatic features\, documentaries and competition nominees\, go to: http://www.bbff.com.au \n\n

SUMMARY:Fancisco's Table @ Barrio
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate that Barrio Eatery & Bar is now officially back open for dinner after the fire in December\, Francisco Smoje is hosting a one-off Francisco’s Table event on Saturday 22 February at 6.30pm. In true Francisco’s Table style\, guests will eat together on communal tables and enjoy a special creative menu with shared plates. \n\nThe renowned Francisco’s Table first began in 2008 as pop-up events\, taking over spaces in an underground dining movement that was spreading across Sydney. In 2011\, Francisco\, his wife Emma\, and their roaming restaurant moved to Byron Bay and quickly became an integral part of the food community. Francisco’s key philosophy is knowing the provenance of food. He spends time getting to know the local growers\, producers and farmers – many of whom are now his friends. \n\n“We wanted to do a special event to celebrate that we are finally back open with our usual trading hours. It’s been a tough few months but the community support has been amazing. Hope to see you all there for our neighbourhood gathering at Barrio.” – Francisco Smoje \n\nArgentinian-born Smoje’s is famed for his authentic\, vibrant and bold cooking that’s familiar and comforting; beautiful to look at\, yet close to its original form. \n\nRejoice with Barrio Eatery & Bar as they re-open for nights\, and enjoy the food\, wine\, culture and most importantly\, the passion of the people. \n\nFrom 22 February 2020\, Barrio Eatery & Bar will be open for breakfast\, lunch and dinner six days a week (Mon-Sat 7am-9pm).   \n\nwww. barriobyronbay.com.au / @barriobyronbay \n  \nFor more information\, images and interviews please contact Georgia Bateman: Georgia@georgiabateman.com / 0402830056
