This is ‘Gabul Jagun’\, Carpet Snake Country.’ \nMy practice highlights our important\, instinctive\, sacred connection to Country through key symbols\, features and knowledge that has been passed down through many generations. This practice has brought me closer to understanding and expressing the energy\, spirit\, cultural lore and stories from country and culture within each painting. \nThe exhibition explores my personal connection to the land and sea country with the many vibrant and subtle colours of my Country. The theme Gabul refers to my people’s totem\, the Carpet Snake. This is a good reflection on my heritage. She is the creator of the award winning drama series Offspring\, which won the 2011 NSW Premier’s Literary Award and the 2014 AACTA Award for best TV screenplay. In 2008 her play Stories in the Dark won Best Play in the NSW Premier’s Literary Awards. Her novels Useful (2015) and The Whole Bright Year (2018) are published by Penguin Random House. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDirector – Liz Chance\n\n\nLiz Chance is a veteran of stage and screen with more than 30 years’ experience as an actor. \nShe has appeared on just about every Australian stage and in more television than she can remember\, including A Country Practice\, Home & Away\, Water Rats\, Blue Heelers\, Rafferty’s Rules\, and G.P. \nFor more than a decade\, Liz also directed and taught at NIDA\, teaching Australian luminaries including Cate Blanchett\, Sam Worthington\, Jeremy Simms\, and Damon Gameau. This is his first performance at The Drill Hall Theatre. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTom Davies\n\n\nTom Davies is an actor\, writer and counsellor who has worked on the stage\, behind it and sometimes on screen too. Originally from Wales\, he holds a Bachelor of Arts in Literature and a Masters in Counselling\, and he works as a chaplain in aged care. Tom also writes poetry and has written one novel\, Murder on The Varya. \nHis acting highlights for stage include Don Carlos for Opera Australia\, Romeo and Juliet\, The Tempest\, The Seagull and Under Milkwood. DESCRIPTION:Peek Gallery presents ‘Concrete Candy’ opening May 20th 7/8 Fletcher St Byron Bay\, featuring a selection of local and international artists. Peek was established in 2020 by Gabrielle Pool and ‘Concrete Candy’ is the second major group show for the gallery\, following ‘East of Everywhere’ in 2021. DESCRIPTION:OUR 2022 YOUTH THEATRE PRODUCTION \nCome and enjoy a powerful Australian drama in a beautiful old theatre in Lismore and support our talented local actors and creatives. \nIt’s been a long road for live performance in our region and our talented cast of 20 (including 17 youths) are thrilled to be stepping back on to stage. \n‘A Property of the Clan’ was written by Nick Enright in 1992. Set in regional NSW it is a tragic tale inspired by real events\, and examines a culture of boys and girls lost in the gender war of Australian masculinity and the emotional effects that loss has on young people. \nThis stimulating and powerful piece suits teenagers through to adults and holds a mirror up to society and make us question our ways. The Rochdale theatre offers a real step back in time\, it’s comfortable and intimate setting ensures a memorable theatre experience. \nThe Directors of Byron Casting bring a fantastic track record in directing and producing brilliant performances; \n“The last couple of years have been incredibly tough for our youth\, and then we had the floods. DESCRIPTION:BACCI (Ballina Arts and Crafts Incorporated) has at least two major exhibitions each year where members have the opportunity to display and sell their work.
