SUMMARY:Rite of Spring\, Matisse La Danse & Carmen (excerpt) presented by Byron Ballet
DESCRIPTION:WHEN:\nJuly 25\, 2021 @ 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm\n\n\nWHERE:\nByron Theatre\n69 Jonson Street\nByron Bay NSW 2481\nAustralia\n\n\nCOST:\nAdult $36 | Child U16 $28 | Family of 4 $100 | Children ages 1 – 2 years free on lap\n\n\nCONTACT:\n\n\n Email\n Event website \n\n\n\n\n\n  \n \nByron Ballet Company’s soiree will transport you on a powerful journey through the incredibly fertile world of musical creation in France from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century. \n4 performances: \nFriday 23rd July at 7:00pm\nSaturday 24th July at 2.00pm & 7:00pm\nSunday 25th July at 5:00pm \nRITE OF SPRING\nWitness Igor Stravinsky’s infamous & iconoclastic ballet The Rite of Spring – one of the most influential performance masterpieces of the twentieth century. Stravinsky‘s avant garde score and Nijinsky’s sacrilegious choreography caused outrage at the Paris premier in 1913. It was the beginning of the modern era\, and one of the most famous nights in art’s history. \n \nJoin Byron Ballet as they make a tribute to these masters with an original family friendly production that will take you on an unforgettable journey of suspense and sensual beauty. \nDirection/choreography by Yvonne Hall. Extra male choreography by Robert Kelly. \n~~~~~~~~~~~~ \nCARMEN (excerpt)\nByron Ballet presents the passionate love duet from this famous story of love and betrayal. \n \nDon José is hopelessly smitten by the free-spirited and beautiful Carmen\, but when she betrays him for a dashing toreador\, his ardour turns to jealous rage. \nSet to the backdrop of George Bizet’s famous hypnotic musical score. \n~~~~~~~~~~~~ \nMATISSE LA DANSE\nAn original creation based on Matisse’s famous painting ‘La Danse’ from 1910\, and some of his other masterpieces. \n \n“Actually\, I live more in Dance: expressive movements\, rhythmics\, music I like”\, said Matisse as a sort of explanation (justification) at the end of his long life. “It was inside me\, this dance.” \nMatisse witnessed Isadora Duncan dancing (one of the founders of modern dance) and if\, indeed\, she was a large source of inspiration for his dance\, it was also a visit in the south of France\, where he witnessed and was fascinated by fishermen dancing their traditional ring that inspired the circle of dancers. \nDirected and conceived by Vianney Pinion\nSoprano – April Galett\, Cello – Ian Knowles\, Piano -Ken Naughton.\nMusic – De Falla\, Saint-Saens\, Debussy and Lekeu. \n~~~~~~~~~~~~ \nFind out more about Byron Ballet on Facebook \n \n\nTo redeem your Discover NSW vouchers (valid until 31st July) or to book wheelchair accessible seating\, contact the Theatre Box Office:\nMon – Fri\, 10.30am – 1.30pm. SUMMARY:Travelling Film Festival 2021 - Lismore & Murwillumbah
DESCRIPTION:The Travelling Film Festival (TFF)\, Australia’s longest running travelling film festival\, showcases Australian and international features\, documentaries and short films in regional Australia. TFF currently tours to 18 locations annually\, screening in the Northern Territory\, Queensland and New South Wales.\nFounded by David Stratton in 1974\, the TFF is committed to providing audiences in regional Australia with access to films they would otherwise not have the opportunity to see on the big screen. The TFF presents cinema in a festival environment and promotes a film experience that encourages debate\, community involvement and interaction. In addition to screenings\, the TFF presents regional Australia with the opportunity to meet film industry professionals through its film industry guest and workshop program\, whenever possible. The TFF facilitates a direct and invaluable dialogue between regional audiences\, local film practitioners and Australia’s wider film community\, an opportunity enthusiastically embraced by all parties. \n“One of the great privileges of directing movies is to finally have the opportunity to talk with audiences directly and the people in regional Australia seem pleased that the effort to share and communicate has been made. They feel included in the cultural agenda. That’s a very good thing.” – Peter Duncan\, director Unfinished Sky. \nThe TFF creates a program specific to each location. Films are chosen in consultation with the cinema and/or local film society and where possible\, are selected from the previous Sydney Film Festival program with an emphasis on diversity of style\, mood and country of origin. The Festival screens over a full weekend; opening on a Friday night complete with an Opening Night function\, and continues over Saturday and Sunday\, screening a total of nine features and two Australian short films. \n“Thanks! Great to have an opportunity to see these films – especially in a remote area.” – a happy filmgoer from Cairns. \nRead up on Travelling Film Festival’s history\, including photos\, stories\, and essays from past Travelling Film Festival programmers\, in Sydney Film Festival 1954 to Now: A Living Archive.

SUMMARY:BYRON UNDERGROUND FILM FESTIVAL 2021
DESCRIPTION:The Byron Underground Film Festival is one of Australia’s newest film festivals\, focusing on innovative\, experimental\, independent and ground-breaking cinema from around the world. \nAs one of the only regions of the country which has remained relatively Covid-19 free over the last year\, we are looking forward to celebrating the cinema experience without the risks associated with holding in-person events in major cities. \n \nByron Bay and the nearby Gold Coast has recently become the centre of much activity in the Australian film industry. The festival has tapped into this growth through our celebration of new independent cinema culture. As a popular travel destination\, we plan to position our festival as an attractive option for the festival circuit which filmmakers\, critics\, distributors and audiences can visit without the risks of covid.
