DESCRIPTION:Twenty four years ago after realising that Australia had many film festivals\, but nothing dedicated to Italian cinema Antonio Zeccola\, owner of Palace Cinemas\, started The Italian Film Festival in November 2000 in Sydney and Melbourne.  It was a resounding success. \nFast forward to 2023 and Australia’s annual celebration of Italy’s best and brightest on the big screen will be opening in Byron Bay at the Palace Cinema\, Jonson Street on 28 September and running until 18 October. \nOpening  with The Last Night of Amore\, get ready to be treated to a taut\, stylish crime thriller set in the streets of Milan. Making its Australian premiere after a successful stint at the Italian box office\, writer/director Andrea Di Stefano’s police flick stars Pierfrancesco Favino (The Hummingbird) and tells of an about-to-retire honest cop facing a chaotic\, crime-riddled\, corruption-fuelled situation. \nAlso among the event’s spotlight flicks\, Kidnapped sits in the centrepiece slot\, recreating the tale of the Vatican’s abduction of a young Jewish boy in the 19th century\, plus as the scandal that unsurprisingly followed. As part of a focus on actor\, filmmaker and screenwriter Massimo Troisi\, 1994’s The Postman\, the talent’s two-time Oscar-nominated final film\, will close out the fest with a 50s-set whirlwind of love and friendship. \nOrganised exclusively by Palace\, the festival continues to present the best new contemporary Italian cinema and most cherished classics on the big screen. For more than two decades the Festival has celebrated Italian language\, culture and la dolce vita with an ever-growing audience. \nVIVA IL CINEMA! \n

SUMMARY:Ballina Contemporary Art Market
DESCRIPTION:The Ballina Contemporary Art Market is a one-day\, fun-filled arts and cultural event taking place on Saturday 14 October from 10am-7pm at the Northern Rivers Community Gallery (NRCG) & Ignite Studios creative precinct (cnr Cherry and Crane Streets\, Ballina)\, showcasing the creative talent of the region. \nFree to attend\, the event will feature over 50 arts and crafts stalls located within the Gallery\, Ignite Studios\, and surrounding gardens\, selling a range of artworks\, products\, and wares by artists and artisans from across the Northern Rivers. \nThroughout the day\, an exciting program of free creative workshops will be available for market goers – weaving with Jugan Dandii\, collage workshops with Claudie Frock and playing with clay sessions facilitated by local ceramicists. Local visual artist Kate Stroud has developed a range of installations\, including a skill testing machine\, a cloud corridor and a series of augmented reality portraits for market attendees to engage with and discover. \nLocal radio station Paradise FM is running a Busking Competition for the chance to win a recording in their studios and other prizes. Registrations close 30 September. \nThe market will also feature live music\, food trucks\, and roving performances and workshops by internationally acclaimed immersive theatre company Erth Visual & Physical Inc.\, renowned for their innovative\, community driven productions as seen at festivals and events across the country including Sydney Festival\, the Sydney Opera House\, Vivid Sydney as well as multiple international tours. DESCRIPTION:Roots Festival is: \n2 Days of non stop original music held in various venues throughout Nimbin Village. \nWe started in 2016 and we are a family of musicians so our ethos is grassroots and we have gained the reputation of providing a unique little festival with high quality original music set in a town like no other – NIMBIN! \nBusking \nOur 2022 busking comp winner Zac Crackalaka won himself a stage spot at this years festival! \nIf you’d like to enter the comp there’s a fee of $20 and for that you get allocated a time slot for both days and a spot in the village for busking your heart out. We give you a number to display and the public vote for their favourite busker! \nThe winner gets a stage spot at the festival in 2024! \nof course you’re welcome to busk anywhere in the village without paying a fee and entering the competition! \nBusking comp entries available on the ticket page.
