SUMMARY:Tweed Regional Gallery presents "At Home - Margaret Olley & Ben Quilty"
DESCRIPTION:At Home\nMargaret Olley & Ben Quilty\nSaturday 13 November 2021 to Sunday 20 February 2022\nThe Margaret Olley Art Centre \nThis exhibition tells the story of mentorship\, art and friendship between Margaret Olley (1923–2011) and Ben Quilty (b.1973)\, two of Australia’s most celebrated artists. \nAt Home is a sublime collection of recent still life paintings by Ben Quilty alongside still lifes and interiors by Margaret Olley\, from the latter half of her extraordinary career. \nOur new\, post-COVID world inadvertently offered a context for the making of work by Quilty that finds synergy with Olley’s dedication to painting still life. During the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown Quilty turned to ordinary objects as subject matter for painting – something Olley did for many decades in her own Duxford Street home studio. \nAt Home brings their work together to reflect on the everyday as subject matter for painting and as a humble vehicle for the contemplation of humanity. \nThe Margaret Olley Estate is represented by Philip Bacon Galleries (Brisbane). Ben Quilty is represented by Jan Murphy Gallery (Brisbane) and Tolarno Galleries (Melbourne). \nA Tweed Regional Gallery initiative.

SUMMARY:Beach Dogs of Byron Bay @ Lone Goat Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition Name: Beach Dogs of Byron Bay \nArtist: Rob Scott-Mitchell \nDates: 15 January until 26 February 2022 \nLocation: Lone Goat Gallery\, 28 Lawson St\, Byron Bay \nOpen: 10am until 4pm Wednesday to Saturdays \n  \nAbout: \nLocal artist Rob Scott-Mitchell is an award winning photographer/printmaker/musician/dog-lover\, living in Australia. \nTwo years ago he began documenting his own dogs (and all the dogs on the beach) on his daily beach walks at Belongil beach which became his ongoing series ‘Beach Dogs of Byron Bay’. \nStylistically the work has evolved into shooting largely from the dogs’ P.O.V. Scott-Mitchell loves entering their play spaces\, and responding to their energy and occasional aggression. Rob states “I find this very special in the landscape of the beach\, where the openness of the sky and ever present horizon line\, contrasts beautifully with tight shots that focus intimately on the dogs’ interactions.” \nRob’s photographic goal is to engage fully in the present\, to capture the immediacy of the action and interactions of the animals around him. His work invites you to share in the vitality and joy inherent in each canine interaction captured during his effervescent engagement with them. His almost magical interaction with each animal was profound and is evidenced in this exhibition. \nLone Goat Gallery is a creative initiative of Byron Shire Council.
