DESCRIPTION:The Byron Bay Surf Festival (BBSF) organisers are pleased to announce that they have applied to the appropriate (CV19) authorities to run the 11th year of BBSF in 2021. Subject to final approvals and no unexpected covid restrictions\, BBSF will be held on Friday to Sunday 26-28 February 2021 (inclusive) \nWhile BBSF 2021 will of necessity be a somewhat slimmed down event\, we will be holding faithful to our original Mission\, as outlined by Founder James McMillan in 2010 – ‘ to present and maintain the spirit & culture of surfing\, as an expression\, art and lifestyle’. This is going to be an extraordinary afternoon of roots\, reggae\, beach vibes mixed with genre hopping cosmic electronica \n\nThe Beautiful Girls\nThe Beautiful Girls have toured the world\, setting stages on fire wherever they go and we are proud to host them in our home town Byron.\nFormed in Sydney in 2001 by Mat McHugh\, Clay MacDonald\, and Mitchell Connelly. From its inception McHugh always operated The Beautiful Girls as a “collective” rather than a “band”\, a project in which various players came and went depending on what the music he was writing at the time required.\n“Writing the songs\, I’d approach it like a playwright. I knew the ‘actors’ – the musicians – and I knew their strengths. So if I had a saxophone part\, I’d know who I wanted to play that part and knew how they would play and I’d write for them. Similarly with drums and keyboards\, I would write for that person\, and then in an ideal world we’d all go out and perform that album\, and line-ups would be different from album to album\, from one tour to the next.”\n\nLoonaloop\nBest described as a live electro/organic dance band\, loonaloop’s distinctive sound is driven by a combination of traditional instruments\, Drums\, Didgeridoo\, Violin\, Vocals fused with contemporary programming\, synths\, samples\, loops.
