Rolling hills and quaint country towns mark the drive to the world famous hippy town of Nimbin. The 1973 Aquarius dawned the era of the quirky township, where you can spend your free time browsing markets and eccentric shops, people watching at one of the towns fine eateries or lazing by the shaded stream. Warm Nimbin days are cooled off by a refreshing swim at an amazing waterfall. Relax on the rock, swim with turtles, or the adventurous can take a jump from the cliffs.
Minyon Falls and Federal
In the Nightcap National Park, home to the worlds largest subtropical rainforest, lies the breathtaking Minyon Falls. Only a 45 minute drive from Byron Bay, the waters of Repentance Creek cascade 100m down the Minyon cliff face to the rainforest below. Hike with Two Birds Tours to the swimming hole at the base. Home to an array of ancient flora and fauna, the walk is an unforgettable experience where you have an opportunity to take a dip at the foot of the towering falls. The day is capped with a well deserved lunch stop in the beautiful town of Federal, rumoured to have the best sushi in the northern rivers region.
Killen Falls Lennox Head and Lake Ainsworth
A jam packed half day begins exploring the amazing Killen Falls catchment area. Climb behind the falls or stroll round the catchment area and learn about one of Australia’s unique ecosystems. Next stop Lennox Head! Wander round the towering headland for amazing views of the Byron-Ballina coastline or sit back and watch one of Australia’s best surf spots do its thing. Lennox head is a surf heritage wave and for good reason, peeling rights reel down the boulder bottom, hugging the headland, illuminating the beauty that is Australia, refraction and mother nature culminating in the fine art that is surfing. Finish the trip off with a relaxing afternoon at Lake Ainsworth. Died red from the rimming tea trees, Lake Ainsworth has been regarded to have healing qualities by indigenous Australians. Spend the afternoon soaking up the sun or take a dip and cure what ales you.
